Zimfest Brisbane 2011
After three longs years of no Zimfest, Brisbane is proud to say we’ve finally got Zimfest off the ground in 2011! A long wait it has been!
After 6 months of planning, 3 weeks of checking the weather forecasts daily, 2 weeks of ‘Really stressing’ (nobody’s bought any presale tickets… will they come?), a week of about 10 phone calls a day and not much sleep (thanks uni!), the big Zimfest day finally arrived AND it was sunny!
Did anyone come… well yes luckily they did, and in their hundreds! Around 550 Zimbabweans (and a few brave Aussies!) turned up ready to eat, drink, dance and be festive, some slightly more festive than others (thanks to some sneaky pre’s in the park)!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, we hope you enjoyed it. With your help we managed to raise a total of $11 093 !!!
$7 000 will be donated to Foundations for Farming, a reputable charity in Zimbabwe that teaches people how to farm and provide food for themselves. A charity that we believe can help many Zimbabweans and terrible food shortages that it is experiencing. The remaining $4 000 will be kept in the charity account to be used for organising future Zimfests.
A big thank you to Maruza, and Mango and his Hitbangaz crew for all their help, you guys were amazing! Also to Andrew and Alex, our sound guys who sorted all the music equipment out for us. And to our performers for making the event such a Zimfestive occassion! Tichawona, de je Voodoo, Tenda
