Just Children Foundation
THE Just Children Foundation (JCF), a faith based organisation that looks after needy children from all walks of life— especially those living and working in the streets — was established in 1998 by the late Moosa Moses KasimonjeIt was registered with the Ministry of Public Services, Labour and Social Welfare, registration number PVO 02/2000.
During an Alpha course retreat in, Kasimonje had a vision wrapped up in Jeremiah 29:11, which was to become his rhema for this work: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The organisation has a staff complement of 53 led by the Executive Director, Philani Nyatsanza, with skills and expertise in areas of administration, counseling and care–giving, finance, human resources and information and social work management, among others.
Its core business is that of assisting children to get off the streets, rehabilitate them and re–unite them with their biological families or in co–foster families. The organisation stands firmly on the Word that says “God sets the lonely in families” (Psalm 68:6). To this end it endeavours to ensure that children are placed, and grow up, in families. The organisation does not believe in the institutionalisation of children, and only provides temporary shelter.
The JCF blossomed out of the Drop–In–Shelter, run by the Harare Street Children Organisation (HSCO), which had been established in 1994.
The new organisation was anchored on a multi–pronged, all–encompassing strategy to offer Christian counseling and teaching, provide care and shelter, address societal and family cancers that pushed children into the streets and endeavours to change societal attitudes towards children in the streets, among others.
To date, which runs the Faith & Hope Centre in Harare and Come Unto Me Centre in Karoi, as well as a vibrant education and co-fostering programme in Chikomba, has assisted over 2000 children in the last 10 years.
