Theresa Shangazhike, mononymously known as Shanky, is an award-winning singer-songwriter.
She started singing at the age of 5 in a children’s church choir at the Cathedral of The Sacred Heart in Harare, Zimbabwe. Shanky also comes from a musical family. Some of her uncles were in bands, as a result, it influenced her love for music at a young age. Her passion for music continued during primary and high school, where she would lead fellow students in gospel music and was always involved in singing competitions at school.
Shanky won the female artist of the year back to back in 2013 and 2014, including for music artist of the year at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards in 2013. Her music has been well received in the UK and in Zimbabwe. It has also received airtime on radio stations that include, ZIFM, Star FM, BBC 1xtra and Naija FM, to name a few. She has featured in numerous publications and appeared in music videos on MTV and BET.
Her music video, released in 2014 for the single 'Swedera' continues to receive positive reviews and has been played on leading entertainment channels in the UK and abroad including Vox Africa, Ben TV, Nigezie and Sound City. She has also broken into the mainstream Afrobeats scene since performing at the Afrobeats UK concert. She also recently performed at the Africa Unplugged concert alongside Davido, Tiwa Savage and Diamond at the Brixton O2 Academy.
